A new kind of learning system built for families, mentors and alternative providers reimagining education for teenagers who’ve stepped away from school for emotional reasons but still want to succeed in their GCSEs.

🌿 About The Create Approach

Supportive, self-led GCSE workbooks for teens in home or alternative education. Combining structure with creativity, emotional awareness and flexibility.


Hi, I’m Kelly. A former teacher who followed my heart and transitioned into alternative provision. Now I am a alternative education mentor, education designer and home educating mum creating an alternative path through GCSEs for teens, including my own, who’ve stepped away from school.


The young people I have supported over the many years in a variety of different roles are bright, capable and deeply creative but traditional systems didn’t meet or support their learning journey in a way that met their needs. Whether due to anxiety, burnout, neurodivergence or emotional overwhelm, school wasn’t the right fit, but that doesn’t mean learning has to stop and it doesn’t mean (I believe) you have to become a full-time tutor/teacher.


I create GCSE-aligned workbooks that (I hope) feel more like sessions than worksheets. They’re structured enough to meet exam goals, but flexible enough for real life. I am designing them so my own child, and others, can move through each one at their own pace, in their own way, with options for creativity, reflection and emotional safety built in.


These workbooks are designed to:

  • ✅ Follow Edexcel GCSE/iGCSE specifications (other exam boards are available but this is the exam board I am used to teaching from).
  • 🧠 Support teens with ADHD, ASD, social, emotional, mental health needs or want a more innovative self-led approach for their learning. 
  • 🌀 Offer creative pathways and energy-based task choices.
  • 📚 Build confidence in independent learning.
  • 🧭 Reduce pressure on parents, carers, mentors and alternative provisions.


Each workbook is:

  • 🧠 Emotionally aware and trauma-informed.
  • 🌀 Designed with flexible, creative tasks for different energy levels.
  • ✍️ Includes sentence starters, model answers, and practice questions.
  • 🎒 Built for teens to use on their own — no teacher required.
     

Whether you're a parent figuring it out week by week, or a mentor supporting teens across different subjects, my vision is to design The Create Approach so that it offers a way to learn without losing yourself in the process and helps our children to live an inspired life they love. This isn’t school. This is education redesigned with heart.

Let’s be honest (or perhaps it was just me...)

Does home education feel a bit like a maze to you? Especially when your teen is burnt out, anxious or resisting help? You're trying to find a way forward that works for them — without turning into a full-time tutor or signing up for a £0000 online school. That’s where I (perhaps, possibly, hopefully) come in...

Who is this designed for?

 

This approach is for:

  • Families home educating due to needs not met within the mainstream education system. No shame. No overwhelm.
  • Teens in alternative provision who need/want structure without pressure but a mentor to guide.
  • Parents who don't want to be teachers but still care deeply.
  • Mentors or learning hubs looking for GCSE-ready plug-and-play sessions
  • Support for learning without tutors.
  • Alternative provision teams/mentors supporting learners with SEMH or SEND needs.
  • Professionals looking for GCSE-aligned resources that can flex around the learner.
  • Mentors working with teens navigating anxiety, burnout and needs not being met in mainstream school.
     

Just flexible, emotionally aware learning made for real teens, real life and real futures.


 

🧭 Why I believe this works 


Too many GCSE resources are:

  • Built for classrooms, not for learners rebuilding trust in education.
  • Over-reliant on live teaching or rigid delivery
  • Lacking in flexibility, creativity, or emotional awareness
     

The Create Approach fills that gap. Blending academic structure with flexible, inclusive design that supports teens who’ve stepped away from school for mental health or wellbeing reasons.
